Last Friday, it was reported that Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin had been found dead in his Manhattan apartment aged 34. But, surprisingly enough, the star responded in good humour posting two staged photos of himself and his band, The Pizza Underground, imitating the 1989 comedy, Weekend At Bernie’s.

On a fake memorial page, hoaxers wrote, “At about 11am ET on Friday (November 7, 2014), our beloved actor Macaulay Culkin passed away. Macaulay Culkin was born on August 26, 1980 in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

The site was taken down shortly after, but of course rumours spread fast enough for the hoax to be circulating all over the internet and social networks.

Luckily, the rumours were squashed by the star himself upon posting a quick photo of himself on the band’s Instagram page holding a soft drink with the caption ‘We’re on tour you silly people‘.

Macaulay continued to have fun with the hoax instead of letting it get to him, posting a number of Instagram photos of himself with his fellow band members and friends, quoting ‘One of the great things you can do when you’re alive is stop for lunch in Breaux Bridge, LA’.

The star clearly remains in good health and humour, despite public doubt and numerous rumours revolving around his death. According to a poll carried out by the Celebrity Post, 85% of people are not finding these rumours funny, and are in fact finding them, ‘stupid and boring’.

But the truth is, as long as people continue to believe these rumours, hoaxers will most likely continue to create them. The good news is; Macaulay is fine, for now at least, and continues to enjoy life in his band.
